Comprehensive Oral Examination

The first visit at Ladybug Kids Dental involves a comprehensive oral exam, X-rays and a cleaning by our highly skilled pediatric dental staff. During the exam our Dentists not only check for cavities, but also check for soft tissue lesions, bite discrepancies, missing teeth, extra teeth and several other conditions that are important to catch at an early age.

We’ll review any habits that can be detrimental to your child’s oral health, along with proper diet and nutritional guidelines. Our focus during the first visit is to make sure your child feels safe, relaxed, and comfortable with being at a dental office.

Dental Cleanings

Routine teeth cleanings are an important element in preventing cavities and maintaining good oral health. Everyday, there is a constant battle going on in the mouth between teeth and plaque (leftover food particles mixed with saliva). When the plaque wins it transforms into tarter and sticks to the teeth. Tarter builds up usually along the gum line on teeth causing, gingivitis, halitosis (bad breath), bleeding gums, sensitivity, and if left untreated could lead to bone loss, infection and tooth loss.

The dental professionals at Ladybug Kids Dental will gently and effectively remove plaque and tarter from all surfaces of the teeth. We use special polishing machines for light plaque, and high tech vibrating instruments for stubborn tarter buildup. Kids love our cleanings because our staff are not only super patient and friendly with them, they let them choose a flavor of polishing paste that they like from a large selection of great tasting flavors

Dental Sealants

A dental sealant is a white paste applied to the chewing surface of the tooth to help prevent a cavity from forming. They work by “sealing” the natural fissures and grooves on teeth, and effectively block out cavity-forming bacteria from entering. Sealants can last for many years to protect teeth from cavities and are a procedure regularly covered by most dental insurances.

Dental Fillings

We strive to prevent cavities but sometimes they still are unavoidable. Fortunately certain stages of a cavity are reversible, and with proper brushing and flossing they can essentially “go away”. When the cavity has gone deep enough into the tooth, it will require a filling to fix it. A composite or white filling is a tooth-colored filling consisting of ceramic and plastic materials. Many patients and dental professionals prefer these fillings because they blend very nicely with actual teeth. Our friendly Doctor and staff always make sure your child is comfortable and relaxed as they are guided through the procedure.

Teeth with cavities that have become too large to be repaired by a filling will need a dental crown or “cap” to fix it. If the cavity is also very deep and close to the nerve (center of tooth), then it will need a pulpotomy (baby root canal) to fix. During this procedure along with all of our treatments, we always make sure your child is relaxed and comfortable throughout the treatment.
